A Year on The Farm

There is always something to do on Hampton View Homestead… this is a year on our station.

  • December to FebruarySummer
  • March to MayAutumn

  • Mating time, putting the rams in the mob of ewes
  • Checking dams the dams to make sure there is enough water for the sheep
  • Checking paddocks to make sure there is enough feed for the sheep
  • Checking fences are all secure
  • Christmas holidays


  • Shearing Time
  • Getting machinery ready for seeding
  • Order fertilizer
  • Order chemicals
  • Order Fuel
  • Start Seeding around the end of April


  • Lambing
  • Huskies and Hounds – last week of June – this is our major event for Dry-land dog sledding, held on the farm
  • Tailing and tagging lambs
  • King of the Cross – Moto Cycle Weekend held in Southern Cross
  • Southern Cross Agricultural Show – last weekend in August


  • Spray crop for weeds
  • Crutching of sheep, to keep the blow flies at bay!
  • Collections & Car Show – last weekend of September
  • Getting ready for harvest
  • Begin Harvest
